What are Crowns and Bridges?

Crowns are tooth-shaped and able to cover your entire tooth surface. The purpose of the crowns is to mend tooth cracks, breaks, or severe decay to restore your teeth's original size and shape. Additionally, crowns can be made from various materials. Consequently, you have the freedom to select your preferred crown material. The most common types of crowns are made of porcelain because they have a natural and luminous look. Moreover, they tend to be durable compared to crowns made of other materials.

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. Moreover, they non-removable and come in different types. Like the porcelain crowns, porcelain bridges are the most popular because they look and feel like your natural teeth.

Why Do I Need to Get a Crown or a Bridge?

Functions of a Dental Crown:

  • Can be used to replace a missing tooth when attached to a dental implant or when used as part of a dental bridge.
  • Cosmetic Enhancement.
  • Assists in large fillings.
  • To mend fractured fillings.

Functions of Dental Bridges:

  • Bridges
  • Assists to restore and maintain facial shape.
  • Replace the missing teeth.
  • Hinder the remaining teeth from drifting out of their position.
  • Restores your self-esteem and smile.
  • Enables you to chew and speak.

What Can I Expect During the Procedure?

The installation of a crown warrants two appointments ; the first appointment will focus on the creation of your customized porcelain crown. Our dentist will have to take highly accurate molds that will be used to custom make your crown. Furthermore, impressions will be used in the creation of temporary crowns. The function of the transitory crowns will be to offer protection to your teeth when a dental laboratory fabricates your new crowns. This process takes about two weeks to complete.

The second appointment will involve the removal of the temporary crown. The dentist will then proceed to clean your underlying tooth. Finally, your new crown will be meticulously secured in place for a comfortable and accurate fit.

Acquiring a bridge will demand two or more visits to our office. During the first visit, one of our dentists will prepare the two anchoring teeth by removing a portion of enamel to pave the way for a crown. This process will take place while the teeth are numb. After that, a highly precise mold will be made and sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge is fabricated. Moreover, our facility will provide you with a temporary bridge that you will be required to wear for several weeks until your next appointment.

During the second visit, the duty of your dentist will be to carefully check, adjust, and cement your permanent bridge for a proper fit. Finally, at a later time, you will be required to revisit the facility for the new bridge to be permanently cemented.

How Much Do the Procedures Cost?

The cost will vary depending on the number of teeth affected, damage caused, and your preferred procedure (crown or bridge). All our services are affordable.

When you visit our facility, we will provide guidelines on how to care for your new dental restoration. The instructions will entail how to maintain proper oral hygiene. Additionally, we encourage regular dental visits for adequate maintenance of your new dental restoration.
